Hounen, a multinational solar energy manufacturer and real estate developer, has announced major green energy investments at Tatu City, Kenya’s flagship Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
Central to the development is a solar panel manufacturing plant at ALP North Logistics Park, making Tatu City a key hub for clean energy innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, Hounen will install a 1.3MW rooftop solar power system at The Link, Tatu City’s Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) warehousing facility.
The projects, part of Hounen’s over 63,000 sqm of planned developments, highlight the company’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable industrialization. The initiatives are expected to create more than 2,500 green jobs in Kenya.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Jufang Lyu, Founder and Chairwoman of Hounen, said “Our entry into Africa represents the next chapter of Hounen’s growth. We are proud to make Kenya and Tatu City SEZ the hub of our solar energy and sustainable development strategy.”
John Mwendwa, CEO of the Kenya Investment Authority, praised the investment, saying it reinforced Kenya’s leadership in attracting green industries under its Special Economic Zone framework.
Tatu City’s developer, Rendeavour, welcomed the move as a milestone for the city’s sustainable growth. “Hounen’s investment shows how Tatu City is evolving into a global business hub where clean energy, innovation, and green living go hand in hand,” said Stephen Jennings, Founder and CEO of Rendeavour.
Beyond solar, Hounen also plans to deliver additional real estate projects within Tatu City, including a retail village and executive residences.
Currently home to over 100 companies and representing more than USD 3 billion in investment, Tatu City is rapidly emerging as one of Africa’s leading sustainable urban developments.
