Skoot Unveils e3W – Electric Tuk-tuk for Nairobi Drivers

Skoot Technology (Skoot) launched the Skoot e3W, the smart electric tuk-tuk powered by SUN Mobility’s battery swapping technology and distributed by Car & General.

The Skoot e3W combines a proven Piaggio-designed vehicle, supplied and supported by Car & General, with SUN Mobility’s ‘ultrafast’ battery swapping platform. It is a cost effective digitallyconnected solution targeted at ambitious drivers to work smarter and make more money.

Drivers will be able to manage their lease, see swap station locations and access delivery contracts – all from their mobile phone. Battery swaps take just minutes on the SUN Mobility Network, so drivers avoid unnecessary downtime.

A Skoot e3W driver usually travels about 150 km per day. With SUN Mobility, that daily distance costs KES 650, which is up to 30% cheaper than the KES 850 they would have spent on diesel.

Over the past 24 months, Skoot, SUN Mobility and Car & General have conducted successful trials across Nairobi. These included performance testing under load, swap cycle durability monitoring, maintenance stress testing, and rider experience pilots.

The result is an electric 3-wheeler solution, revamped for Kenya’s road conditions, traffic, and driver preferences. The Skoot e3W is available on flexible daily, weekly, or monthly leases, starting at KES1,200 per day, including maintenance.

Sacha Cook, CEO and Co-Founder of Skoot Technology said, “Skoot is transforming clean energy and mobility for drivers, homes and businesses. Our unified app and platform make it simpler to work smarter, cleaner and earn more. The Skoot e3W is built on this foundation – an easy‑access electric vehicle, revamped for working drivers and managed through your mobile phone. Smart gas and 2-wheelers are coming next, bringing more connected experiences to everyday life.”

“SUN Mobility aims to make electric mobility affordable, and after significant success and scale-up in India, we are thrilled to be launching in Kenya with Skoot”, said Ajay Goel, Co-founder and CEOInternational of SUN Mobility. “Our universal battery swapping solutions are built for hard-working 2 and 3-wheeler drivers everywhere, who depend on us to make their living. Over the coming months, we are expanding the network and launching a series of exciting and affordable vehicles.”

“Our partnership with Skoot allows us to bring dependable electric 3-wheelers to drivers who need reliable daily earnings,” said Mr. George Rubiri, General Manager, Car & General. “With our distribution and servicing footprint and Skoot’s digital tools, we’re confident this product will transform how drivers work.”

A driver from the Nairobi pilot, Benson K. highlighted the difference the Skoot e3W made to his daily income. “With the Skoot, I get an easy daily rental for my vehicle. I don’t waste time and swap in minutes to get back on the road. My earnings are more stable, and the app makes everything easier – charging, payments and support.”
