The World Mission Society Church of God (General Pastor Kim Joo-cheol) has successfully planted 200 fruit trees at Kasarani Primary School on Sunday morning. The initiative, held on January 11, 2026, marks a significant local milestone for the global “Forest of Hope” campaign.
The event was timed to commemorate two vital environmental milestones: World Soil Day and International Mountain Day. By planting a variety of mango and orange trees, the church aims to achieve a dual impact—mitigating the effects of climate change while providing a sustainable future food source for the school’s students.
The “Forest of Hope” campaign is an integral part of the church’s broader “Global Hope Supporters” initiative. Launched in 2024 to celebrate the organization’s 60th anniversary, the program is currently active in diverse regions, including the United States, Mexico, Korea, Germany, and Australia.
“Trees are green shields protecting the earth,” stated a representative from the Church of God during the activity. “They provide a wide range of benefits such as improving air quality, preventing landslides, securing biodiversity, and mitigating the urban heat island effect. Our members have come together with one mind to build a greener future for our planet.”
The campaign aligns directly with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically focusing on “Climate Action.” Beyond tree planting, the global initiative involves removing invasive plant species and conducting environmental cleanups in mountains and parks worldwide.
This latest project at Kasarani Primary School is one of many humanitarian efforts the Church of God has undertaken across Kenya. The organization has established a strong presence through consistent community service, including: Environmental Restoration (Previous cleanups at Tudor Creek in Mombasa, Lake Victoria in Homa Bay, and along the Nairobi River), Health and Welfare (Hosting four major blood drives last year and distributing essential food packages to vulnerable households in Starehe) and Educational Support (Enhancing local schools through mural painting at Homa Bay Primary and installing security infrastructure at Kangemi High School)
The World Mission Society Church of God, which operates over 7,800 branches across 175 countries, bases its community-driven philosophy on the biblical teaching to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
To date, the organization has received over 5,400 awards globally, including the U.S. President’s Volunteer Service Award and the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in the U.K. This recent endeavor in Nairobi County further cements their commitment to fostering resilient and sustainable communities in Kenya and beyond.
